Welcome to the new format of the Honeybee R&D Program R&D Update/Newsletter. HBRDC has decided we need to put a major effort into improved communications of the results of the R&D program.
We feel the revised format of the R&D Update is one of several ways we can improve communication of project results.
The newsletter will include short summaries of projects and let the industry know when results become available. We will also keep industry updated regarding new projects and other activities we will promote.
The newsletter will be distributed through inserts in industry journals and also probably through State Associations. However, if you would like to receive a copy directly from RIRDC please contact Vicki Byrne (contacts on back) and she will add you to our Honeybee mailing list. We hope you enjoy the Newsletter and we would appreciate any feedback/comments.
The Committee has decided to look at using CD technology as another means of improving our communications effectiveness.
Keith McIlvride has been devoting a significant effort to creating these CDs. Two have been developed so far.
The first CD is a Pollination Manual based on the results of a major project by Russell Goodman. The CD was launched at the last Annual Conference of the Crop Pollination Association.
It was very well received and the visiting speaker Cliff Van Eaten (New Zealand) made a special point of noting that such a high quality product was not available anywhere else in the world. This has been a very popular CD.
The second CD, which has just been released in time for the State Conferences, is a Honeybee Research Reports CD. This CD contains a comprehensive set of all research projects undertaken in Australia since 1980. It has been developed using the latest electronic software, which makes it very user friendly. It will be updated regularly and will provide an invaluable onestop source for the latest research findings.
Both CDs are available from RIRDC for $20 plus postage and handling. If you would like to know more please see our new publications flyer or ring Vicki Byrne (contact details on back).
New Five Year Plan being developed
The current five-year plan runs until the end of 2001. The Committee has been developing a new plan for 2002- 2007.
A draft has been prepared and will be discussed with State Associations during the State Conferences. A re-draft will be prepared and considered at the AHBIC Annual Conference.
A final draft will be circulated for comment and then the Plan will
be submitted to the RIRDC Board for approval.
The Committee encourages all in the industry to have an input to this
process so the plan will include all R&D priorities.
Many of these are available for free download from our web site
at http://www.rirdc.gov.au/reports/Index.htm
We have also developed a new publication flyer, which includes these new publications plus all past ones. This flyer has been distributed at all State Conferences. If you have not yet received one please contact Vicki Byrne or visit our web site at http://www.rirdc.gov.au/programs/hb.html.
