Applications sought for RIRDC Managing Director position 23 Sep 2015

A rare opportunity has now become available to help shape the future of Australia’s rural industries, leading an organisation managing innovative R&D, extension and commercialisation projects and activities.

The Rural Industries Research & Development Corporation (RIRDC) is a statutory authority, established by the Primary Industries Research & Development Act 1989. RIRDC’s mission is to invest in research and development that is adopted, and assists rural industries to be productive, profitable and sustainable.

RIRDC is seeking to appoint a new Managing Director to lead the organisation into the exciting next phase of growth in emerging rural industry R&D, extension and commercialisation opportunities.

The Managing Director reports to the Board of Directors, and is accountable for the overall performance of the corporation, directed to achieve the goals and targets set out in the five year Corporate Plan, R&D Plans and the Annual Operating Plans.

Maintaining sound and effective relationships with the Board, government and industry stakeholders, co-investors and other research partners, and as the face of the organisation operating in a funded environment, a strong personal presence and the ability to form win-win partnerships in public and private sectors will be vital. Proven leadership will be essential in building a strong, committed team, with a strategic, logical and proactive approach to targeted research portfolio management and delivering results.

We are now seeking a Managing Director with the following skills and attributes:

  • An in-depth background in R&D portfolio management and delivery of R&D results to end users, with tertiary qualifications in science or similar, preferably at a post-graduate level

  • Demonstrated corporate governance in working directly with a Board

  • Strong financial and strategic skills in a competitive funding environment

  • Forward thinking and creative, with a focus on innovation and the ability to perform effectively in complex environments

  • Proven high level leadership, bringing diverse people and groups along and in managing a geographically spread staffing and organisational environment

  • Experience in working with a diverse range of relationships across shareholders, clients and stakeholders

  • A strong personal presence, representing the organisation as a key thought leader and contributor to rural industries

  • Team builder with personal drive, energy and credibility
