Strategies and Expectations

 

Key strategies for 2010-11

The Committee will continue to work across all of the strategies from the current five-year plan to implement and manage high quality research for the benefit of the Australian Horse Industry.

Expected key outputs for 2010-11

  • Presentation of research outcomes at industry meetings, to improve industry understanding of R&D results
  • Improved communication between RIRDC and R&D providers
  • Reference to new research outcomes in industry-related journals and in policy and practices
  • Release of research reports addressing industry-identified research needs.

Expected key outcomes for 2010-11

  • Improvements in anaesthetic safety in horses
  • Improvements in reproductive management of broodmares for optimal fertility
  • Improvements in our understanding of factors contributing to musculoskeletal disease including management to minimise risks of injury
  • Improved understanding of EIPH and recommendations for management and prevention of this condition.
  • Improved understanding of factors associated with increased pregnancy loss and recommendations for optimising survival through pregnancy and delivery of a live foal at term.
  • Improvements in stem cell research and its application in the horse industry
  • Understanding of the epidemiology of the equine influenza outbreak and lessons for improved preparedness and response in future outbreaks
  • Improved health and safety in racing for horses and jockeys
  • Improved communication of Program activities and research outcomes.
