RIRDC, shaping the future

RIRDC's Bioenergy, Bioproducts and Energy program aims to meet Australia's research and development needs for sustainable and profitable bioenergy and bioproducts industries and to develop an energy cross-sectoral R&D plan.

Growing demand for alternative feedstock for fuel, electricity, chemicals and other commercial uses has stimulated the need for ongoing research and development.

This program includes the sub-programs of Methane to Markets, a program to encourage methane capture and use technology in intensive livestock industries, and Bioenergy Australia, a government-industry alliance managed by RIRDC which is focussed on biomass as an energy source.

The program is funded by voluntary industry revenue and RIRDC core funds provided by the Australian Government.  Methane to Markets receives funding from the Australian Government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, while Bioenergy Australia is funded by contributions from its member organisations, including RIRDC.
