  • Industry fact sheet with general information about the use of processing aids for olive oil extraction and quality improvement.
  • Monitoring and management packages for olive growers for dealing with black scale and apple weevil
  • An electronic pest alert system for olive growers
  • Consultation with the olive industry on the development of a national levy
  • Australian Standard for olive oil.

Expected key outcomes for 2010-11

  • Growers will be better prepared to process their olive fruit in a more cost effective manner by improving their processing aid management during fruit processing.
  • Growers enabled to effectively manage black scale and apple weevil in olives with an emphasis on integrated pest management
  • Postal ballot for olive national levy proposal conducted
  • Improved olive oil quality in the domestic market.

Proposed communication and extension activities for 2010-11

  • National Olive Expo held in October in Adelaide
  • Quarterly R&D features in the Olive Press
  • Development of fact sheet on the use of processing aids for oil extractability and quality improvement will enhance uptake of this improved processing methodology
  • Farm notes distributed on black scale and weevils in olives and presentations delivered at growers meetings with a hands on approach to identification and monitoring
  • Olive levy consultation process.
