RIRDC supports scholarships on the basis established by the Australian Rural Leadership Foundation primarily the potential of the applicant to contribute to the growth of rural Australia in a leadership role and provide vision to rural industries. Participants attend a two year part time course which is conducted from April one year to September the next.
In 1996-97 RIRDC contributed $125,000 to support the operation of the Australian Leadership Foundation in addition to scholarship support.
The Australian Leadership Program is an initiative of the Corporation which commenced in 1992. While initially RIRDC was the prime sponsor of the program its continuing success has attracted good support from both industry and Government sponsors substantially decreasing the need for ongoing RIRDC support.
To date two courses have been completed, two courses are currently underway and the participants for a fifth course commencing in 1998 have been selected.
