Sustainability framework for biobased products in Australia
Summary * Review literature on international developments in sustainability criteria for bioenergy and biofuels (O’Connell, Raison, Cowie, George)
* Review the methods for assessment of sustainable biomass production for biobased industries (O’Connell, Raison, Cowie,)
* List areas of Australian policy (Federal and NSW) which are relevant to the sustainability of bioenergy, biofuel and bioproducts (O’Connell, George, Braid)
* Identify possible pathways for adoption of Australian sustainability guidelines into policy or industry development (Federal and NSW) (O’Connell, George, Braid)
* Develop the full proposal for the remaining phases of the project, including development of a suitable approach for Australia, application of the approach at national through to case study scales in a collaborative effort between CSIRO and NSW DPI
* Produce a Final Report which is easy to read and distils the key concepts and approaches

Objective summary The key aim of the project is to produce a short review (approximately 40 pages) on national and international development in the approaches to sustainability of biofuels, bioenergy and biobased products; identify and list relevant Australian government policies, and identify pathways to adoption of future sustainability guidelines for biofuels and bioenergy.
