Background paper on transition pathways for bioenergy development
Summary The paper will focus on potential transition pathways for bioenergy in the context of possible developments in
energy prices,
government policy related to climate change and energy security
and technology.

2 We will use a transition analysis framework developed from the literature on technology dissemination as a basis. Within this framework the paper will consider possible transitions to selective alternative energy futures such as lignocellulosics Hydrogen, and battery technology from the current Australian situation.
3 The possible alternative energy futures will be informed by an assessment of risks and opportunities for potential Australian bioenergy products.
4. By analysing pathways to possible bioenergy options, this risk and opportunity assessment will be a useful input to the Five Year Plan for Bioenergy, Bioproducts and Energy, and will inform discussion of possible future commitments to research and development priorities in this area.
