A National RD&E Strategy Communications and Extension Program for Bioenergy
Summary Bioenergy is the only renewable source of energy that has the potential to be able to cater for all our energy needs (heat, electricity and fuel). Australian government agencies and businesses, including RIRDC, have and continue to fund research, development and to a lesser extent communication and extension activities around bioenergy.
After a 2010 review of its bioenergy portfolio that found that RIRDC's impact in the bioenergy field was unexpectantly high for its funding level, RIRDC has decided to move away from research and development to focus its efforts on adding value to national and international research efforts as an 'influencer' and 'information facilitator', especially that procuring onfarm, by funding more communication and extension activities.
Such communication and extension will help achieve a more coordinated packaging of relevant knowledge across agencies to better inform the decisionmaking of both governments and farmers. Researchers and technical experts will assist with this process by contributing to informationgiving.
