Securing a sustainable phosphorus future for Australia - phase 2
Summary Phase II of this project will create agriculturalspecific tools to aid the agricultural sector in improving phosphorus use efficiency to buffer against phosphorus scarcity and phosphorus pollution, improve farm economics, soil fertility and ultimately the productivity of the Australian food system. This new research will also address how Australian agriculture specifically is likely to be impacted by global phosphorus scarcity, under both ‘donothing’ and ‘sustainable response’ pathways.
Program National Rural Issues
Research organisation University of Technology, Sydney
Objective summary The specific objectives of Phase II are to:
1. Identify and classify all potential sustainable phosphorus measures (demand & supplyside);
2. Identify the specific ways Australian agriculture is likely to experience phosphorus scarcity;
3. Based on 1 and 2, assess which efficient phosphorus practices and technologies are likely to be the most appropriate for the Australian agriculture sector to invest in.
